The book Reform 1996 (Gegee ’96), aimed at those passionate about spreading enlightenment and positivity in Mongolian society, has reached readers.
The author of this compact book, Tsagaan Puntsag, recounts the reforms he implemented while serving as a member of the Mongolian government and Minister of Finance from 1996 to 1998. The book launch was attended by government officials, cultural figures, and journalists. Former Prime Minister Enkhsaikhan Mendsaikhan shared his reflections on leading the government during a crisis and initiating reforms. Labor Hero and People’s Writer Galsan Tangad also spoke, presenting a copy of the book as a gift and urging the author to write about his experiences, noting that while serving as Finance Minister he began spreading “light,” and as Education Minister, he continued to “illuminate.”
This memoir vividly describes the socio-economic conditions and people’s lives at the time. The author praises colleagues where praise is due, criticizes where necessary, and even includes a few playful jabs—making for an engaging and candid read.
